Tell us about you:

I am Darius White, a first-generation college graduate, using his classroom and social media platforms to make space for radical collaboration, thoughtful advocacy, and critical conversations about the collective need to call out harmful ideologies and institutions (instead of individuals). Viewing advocacy and activism from an education standpoint, I see myself as a player-coach with a big imagination and even more dynamic teammates, my students. 

What are the 2-3 biggest changes you want to see in the world?

I would like to see more of an empathetic culture that embraces active listening, inclusion, and healing instead of an exclusionary culture that thrives on "canceling", exceptionalism, and retribution. 

What inspired you to first step into action?

Having been raised by a grandmother who picked cotton in the hot Texas sun and two parents who woke up too early for me to say goodbye before school, I knew I had to pay homage and continue their work to better our family and our community. I felt called to the classroom to make my difference in the world. 

What advice do you have for folks who want to step into advocacy but aren't sure how?

Consider your dreams, sacrifices, and actions in terms of “WE”, not “ME.” Know that your action (or inaction) will have an effect on the future of others, regardless if you meet those people or not or live to see the fruits of your labor. That said, pay it forward; reach one, teach one; this work is bigger than you and me, so we need each other’s gifts, hands, and hearts.
